CRIME AND PUNISHMENT - REALITY AND FANTASY

The law in our hands

The reason that countries like Brazil and Mexico have so much poverty, and such a small middle class, is that their systems lack transparency and the rule of law. Corruption is not only tolerated, its expected. And the use of large state controlled companies like Petrobras adds even more potential for corruption. In order to show those in power that corruption will not be tolerated, corruption needs to be brutally punished. How long would it take a common worker in Brazil to make the millions that these people have stolen from Petrobras? Several lifetimes. Death would not be an unreasonable sentence, but long jail terms – that are actually served – is a place to start.
