The Crime

Bitcoin is a digital currency created to avoid clearing houses required for most monetary transactions. It was created in 2008 and is categorized by the US Treasury as decentralized virtual currency. EBOOK101, the accused Bitcoin thief, is being sought out by the Bitcoin community, as a result of stealing 96,000 Bitcoins (about $100 million US Dollars).

Sheep Marketplace is an illegal drug sales website run by anonymous Bitcoin users. The website recently went offline and was created when Silk Road, a former drug sales website, was shut down by U.S. Prosecutors.

Real Punishment

EBOOK101 is currently on the virtual run from Sheep Marketplace, as well as other Bitcoin users. The individual responsible is still unknown.

The law in our hands

First of all, we’d like to acknowledge that this all sounds like a Matt Damon or Matrix thriller, but its a real crime. Some bitcoin users have posited that the thieves will be hunted down by the drug dealers they stole from, and will be tortured and or killed.  Digital thieves stealing a hard-to-understand currency from anonymous drug dealers – not a crime that really gets our heart rate going, although we would like the movie rights.
